Glenn Frey’s widow files wrongful death suit

On Behalf of | Jan 18, 2018 | Wrongful Death

Beloved guitarist Glenn Frey might be most well-known for his time with the Eagles, but his name recently made headlines for something other than his music. Frey’s widow is suing a New York hospital for what she says was the wrongful death of her husband. Her suit claims that both the hospital and an attending gastroenterologist were negligent in the care and treatment of the beloved music icon.

Frey was under the care of the named GI doctor between Oct. 2015 and Nov. 2015. The suit claims that during that time Frey was not properly diagnosed or treated for an infection, his ulcerative colitis went improperly treated and that the side effects and risks of treatment were not disclosed. As a result, Frey was left sicker than ever before.

The suit also alleges that Frey became disabled while under the GI’s care. He also suffered ongoing mental anguish and pain until he died on Jan. 18, 2016. He was 67 at the time of his death. His cause of death was listed as complications from pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis and his acute ulcerative colitis. Between the time that he left the GI’s care and his death, he suffered ongoing mental anguish and pain.

Watching a loved one struggle with and ultimately succumb to an improperly treated illness can be incredibly difficult for surviving family members. Many feel as if they have limited options for dealing with their grief, related medical bills and funeral expenses. Wrongful death claims can be an avenue of hope for New York families, who may seek compensation on behalf of their loved one’s estate.
